Pogoplug - Access your data anywhere…seriously

January 16, 2009

One of our favourite gadgets to grace CES this year was the Pogoplug. This little (literally) device allows you to connect your external hard drive to your router and share/access your files from anywhere.

The interesting part - There are only 4-steps necessary to set the device up:

  1. Plug your Pogoplug into a wall socket
  2. Connect your Pogoplug to your router with the supplied network cable
  3. Insert any external hard drive or memory stick into your Pogoplug
  4. From your computer, go to my.pogoplug.com and type in your unique Pogoplug registration code

Features

  • Easy to install — Installing your Pogoplug is as simple as connecting two cables, then visiting our website. No need to call your office networking guy, we’ll do all the work for you!
  • Full Web access — All the files from your external hard drive can be viewed or downloaded through your Web browser, with no need to download or install extra software.
  • iPhone support — Access all your media from an iPhone, and even send new pictures from your iPhone straight to your home, with a single click.
  • Works just like your hard drive — Your Pogoplug is accessible through Windows Explorer and Mac Finder. It’s just like using a drive that is directly connected to your computer.
  • Safe, simple sharing — Easily share your home videos and photos with friends and family. No uploading required!
  • Add-ons — Pogoplug is getting even better all the time. Our system is expandable over the Web. Soon, your Pogoplug can connect directly to popular sites such as backup, file synchronization, photo printing and more.

If this sounds intriguing to you, visit www.pogoplug.com and preorder it for the low cost of $79!

Update from Pogoplug: “Originally, we were slated to start this process in late February, but we’re pushing back a few weeks to implement the beta enhancements, so it looks like press reviews will start going out in mid-to-late March.

I’ll follow up in the next few weeks to let you know when you should expect your unit. At this point I still don’t have a final “headcount” per se, but it looks like we’ve got a lot of interested parties and only a handful of units, so we’re going to do our best to make everyone happy in a timely manner!”
