Prapta.com - Not your average Social Networking

Intowit.com sits down with another start-up to get an inside look at what makes them tick. Prapta.com is truly an original idea and I think all who read this should go and try it out! It’s free and it’s enlightening. It really makes you want to ‘experience’ life and what it has to offer. Not only that but you should see what people have accomplished and the odd things that they have done.

What is Prapta? (A general description)

Prapta is a social network with over one million life experiences in which you can check off your “Life List”. It also has blogs, profiles, instant messaging, email, chat, and soul mate matching which compares your experiences against others’. You get ‘Life Points’ for marking off completed experiences. For example, if you have been skydiving, you get 100 points. If you have eaten an apple, you get 5 points. The points are determined by a complicated algorithm which is continually being improved.

What was your thought process behind starting the site?

The founders were tired of places like MySpace because they were filled with many spammers, random strangers, annoying ads, and fake profiles. We wanted to create a close-knit community with a clean interface, free of spam, where you will feel at home with while being useful at the same time by using our unique experience checklist.

How long has Prapta been up and running and how many users do you currently have?

Prapta just started less than a month ago and we’ve received overwhelming amounts of inquiries about the site. We have hundreds of users and it’s continually growing in folds. So this is a great start, it definitely exceeded our expectations because we thought we’d only get a hand full. And the feedback we received has been a tremendous help for us to develop the community. No idea is too small.

How do you plan to increase your user base?

Our user base increases on its own. People are naturally referring to their friends because of they feel compelled to help their friends to join a better community.

What does Prapta offer that other Social Networking sites do not?

The obvious is the massive human experience list which is pretty cool on its own, but not many people understand Prapta’s true capabilities. It runs on a special technology which other websites cannot offer. We are 100% JavaScript (JSON/AJAX). In addition to the normal social networking
features, our technology allows us to incorporate built-in site-wide instant messaging and chat. Other websites use external software or popup windows to poorly emulate this. Also the special technology makes our website load extremely fast for both the users and our servers. This is a
huge issue when you think about the popular social networking sites which constantly suffer from server load.

The www is all about user generated content. How does Prapta solve this issue while remaining innovative?

When users are checking off items in their experience list, they often find things that aren’t in there. So we allowed users to submit any experience they want in a spam-proof fashion. Every single experience is reviewed by the Prapta team to make sure the list stays organized unlike other sites. Also normal user generated content such as blogs will be enhanced by the list. Users can attach experiences to the blogs instead of just tags for a more complete log of your life.

Video on web sites are all the “craze” right now, does Prapta allow user to share home made videos and allow users to comment through audio/visual/text means?

Although those features are not yet available in Prapta, they are at the top of our to-do list. In the meantime, we have allowed YouTube videos to be securely embedded as a temporary alternative. We chose to create a stable and secure base from the beginning instead of simply jumping onto the video bandwagon. Security is our big concern for our users. Did you know logging into MySpace while using a public or shared internet connection is often a security risk? People could steal your emails and passwords by using a packet sniffer since MySpace after all this time, didn’t get one of their hundreds of employees to take 10 minutes out of their day to install SSL encryption. It should show you how much some places really don’t give a flying frankfurter about their users. We actually care!

With the amount of start-ups increasing everyday where do you see Prapta in the next couple of years?

Right on top! The future of the web is in AJAX/JSON/JavaScript and Prapta has already mastered that. Now that we have gotten that covered and geared it up with our great idea, we now have all the time in the world to constantly improve and innovate. Keep an eye open for us! This is just the beginning and we have a big surprise in the near future.
