Where’s my 4GB of Ram? - In Vista
February 12, 2008

So, you just bought/made a new computer with 4GB of sweet sweet RAM but the installed OS (Vista 32-bit) only shows 3GB. What’s the deal?
If you run Vista 32-bit, there’s nothing that you can do about this issue. The reason stems from a decision made long before 4GB was even a feasible option. The name of this behaviour — Memory Mapped Input Output Reservations
A large chunk of memory is made available to System Hardware and can usually cost you 256mb to 1GB of your favourite volatile memory. Therefore it is inaccessible by your OS and you only “see” 2.75GB to 3.5GB.
If you run:
Windows 32-bit OS - The maximum amount of usable memory is 4GB unless you have a PAE equipped system
Windows 64-bit OS - The maximum amount of usable memory is between 8GB and 128GB, but accessibility depends on your chipset
Buying a Smart Car? Might as well get a Twike.

A company in a small town in Germany developed this little guy and it’s starting to become a buzz in the Netherlands and other environmentally mindful countries. Takes about - http://www.twikeworld.com/ kugh - 200 minutes to charge or - http://www.addr.com/http_404_filenot_found.htm that was the dog - one minute for each kilometer of its range without peddling. Of course, peddling charges the battery in which case you can go forever.

Rogers Extreme Plus Testing Results - Ajax, Ontario …
Greetings gang! Per our chats, since a bunch of us were talking about upgrading to the new Rogers Extreme Plus service, I decided to take the plunge and test the waters. I’m documenting the results from the initial testing here instead of firing this all out via email, and to ensure that the results formatting comes across OK. So far it doesn’t look too pretty, but as the Rogers setup is based on shared bandwidth and resources for a particular area, it’s very possible that the problems I’m having are limited to my street, the immediate area, or all of Ajax for that matter.
For those of us in the east end of Toronto, if anyone else decides to try things out, drop me a line here or to my personal email address and I’ll send you a copy of the Excel spreadsheet I used to log the results. Fire it back to me when you’ve completed it and I’ll post the results for your area.
Background / Overview
The Rogers Extreme PLUS service is rated for download speeds of 18Mbps, unfortunately, I’m not getting anywhere near that on a consistent basis - upload speeds are fine.

Canadian Supercar????
July 18, 2007
It seems that the rumours have been true and the Locus Plethore is actually making it’s way into production. First words out of all of our mouths “A Canadian supercar?” I was dumbfounded when I heard this, considering we all carry hockey sticks and have to walk to work through 4 feet of snow. That’s just in Southern Ontario, I would hate to see what people in the great white North go through to get to work.

Available in a modest 750 hp version or 1300hp version for guys with really really *big* wangs. Looking at this thing reminded me of a McLaren F1 which is not a bad thing by any means but being a Canadian I would expect a more original design. I guess when we have to market to our smaller but bigger brother we can’t be too adventurous or we’d be considered a threat to National Security.
Anyway, great building CDNs and I hope you keep a few up here for us as well.

Team Linux car crashes at Indy!
May 29, 2007
On Sunday, the Tux 500 sponsored Indy-car crashed on turn-1. Roberto Moreno was driving the Chastain Motorsports and Team Linux car, he was taken to the hospital for observation after complaining of back pain.
” As of this report, no less than 5 cars have french kissed the wall during the 91st running of the Indy 500.”
“For now though, let it be known. We, the Linux Community, did what we set out to do. We started to tell the world about Linux. Via this event, millions of people that have never heard of Linux now have. ”
All I have to say is that it was worth my 10 dollars! I would love to see more people running linux as their main operating system and this is only the first step!
