AMD splitting - The logical solution

October 7, 2008

AMD has officially announced that it is splitting into two companies - one to design chips and one to carry out the actual fabrication process.

Abu Dhabi investment firms will be handing over an estimated $6-billion to the new companies. This fundage will also be used to create a new chip fabrication plant in Albany, New York and to refurbish one in Germany.

Considering that AMD is holding on to a $5-billion debt we hope that this solution will be enough to trump the possibility of shutting down shop. Hopefully, reducing the chance that Intel will completely monopolize the chip market. After all, competition reduces chip prices for us the consumer.

Good luck AMD & the newly founded ATIC (Advanced Technology Investment Company)

Microsoft comes clean with 360 Price drop

July 13, 2008

By now everyone has heard that the 360 has indeed received a price drop for the 20GB model. However, Microsoft has finally come clean and has given a reason for this…

The new pricepoint, isn’t a new pricepoint! It’s MS’sway of selling off the remaining 20GB models to make room for the new 60GB sku. Expect to pay $349 for the new sku. And the 20GB is available at $299, while supplies last.

Priced at $299.00 it’s hard to resist picking one up (if you don’t have one already). Although it’s a good way to get a cheap 360 with a HDD. Just remember that 20GB just isn’t enough for live these days. With downloadable movies, arcade games, game clips and Xbox originals you’ll run through the 12GB (available for use on the 20GB) pretty quickly. It may be worth your $50 to wait until the 60GB is available.

Like Sake - Apply for $500 loan here

July 5, 2008

Sake — usually called “rice wine” here in North America, is a non-carbonated alcoholic beverage with a similar taste to grape wine.

Kame no. 0 by Wataribune is dai ginjo sake and, at $500/720ml bottle it is probably the most expensive rice wine that we’ll ever have.

If you want to get your lips on this “luxury” item, you’ll just have to visit the San Francisco area and go to a store called True Sake.

Project Genesis - The most expensive Cruise Ship

July 5, 2008

At $1.24-billion Project Genesis is the most expensive cruise ship ever created.

Royal Caribbean’s enormous ship weighs in at 220,000 tons, 1,180 feet long, can carry 6,800 passengers and 2100 crew members. The common area is the same size as a football field, aptly named Central Park.

We can just imagine how much it will cost to get on this floating city!

Blackberry Thunder - Mmmm…touchscreen!

June 8, 2008

BoyGeniousReport

 – This photo is not real; it is a graphical representation of what is expected from BGR.

Expected in Q3 is the codenamed Blackberry Thunder (9500), a 4-key (send / end phone keys, the BlackBerry menu key, and the back key), full touchscreen beauty. We have all been waiting for a touchscreen Blackberry and if rumours are true we won’t be able to our hands on it here in Canada :(

Blackberry will be supposedly launching exclusively on Vodaphone and Verizon networks.  Considering RIM is a Waterloo, Ontario Canada based company we are shocked at the thought of this. Hopefully, it’s a horrible lie but we’re not holding our breath. After all the greenback speaks louder than our monopoly money. Canadians cross your fingers and hope that Verizon / Vodaphone don’t meet RIM’s sales expectations!

Interesting rumoured specs:

  • 624 MHz processor
  • estimated $400 with a two-year contract
  • hybrid CDMA EV-DO Rev. C / GSM HSPA radio
  • 4G LTE
