Bioshock - No longer a Xbox 360 & PC exclusive

June 1, 2008

2K Games officially that BioShock will in fact be ported over to the PlayStation 3, and will arrive this October. Not only is the game coming, which PS3 owners should be happy enough about, but it will also contain additional content that has yet to be revealed; perhaps some new plasmids?

Christoph Hartman, President of 2K, commented on the announcement saying: “Since BioShock for Xbox 360 and Games for Windows won countless 2007 Game of the Year awards, we are excited to see the impact of this stellar title for the PlayStation 3 system when it debuts this fall.”

Bioshock was released in August of 2007 for both Xbox 360 and PC, shortly afterwards receiving rave reviews, multiple awards, and positive praise from pretty much everyone

GTA IV: Sales for the 1st Week

May 11, 2008

GTA IV Sales beat Halo 3’s record of $300-million in the first week of sales. GTA IV the new front-runner raked in $500-million in it’s first week. Selling a record breaking 3.6 million copies on the first day and 6 million copies for the entire week.

However, before comparing this record to Halo 3 remember that these stats don’t really apply to Halo 3 as this game was only released for the Xbox 360. GTA IV was released for both next-gen consoles.

Still, it’s an impressive feat and all the power to Take-Two.

Slim-line PS3 on the Horizon

February 2, 2008

We can all stop with the Waffle Iron jokes now that the dudes at T3 are saying that an “inside” man has provided details about a new Sony PS3 SKU. This new and improved playstation is sleeker, sexier and looks much less like a waffle iron / George Foreman grill. Since there have been slim and attractive versions of every other Sony console, we are comfortable in saying that this rumour is looking to be true.

If this is true, we say Good Job Sony. Otherwise, we’re still bitter with the powerful console and crappy game selection. Seriously, all we have right now is a $600 media player.

Xbox 360 vs. PS3 - Power Usage

February 2, 2008

Ever wonder how much power your 360 & PS3 is drawing from your socket/wallet? Look no further because we got some fast stats for you, and they’re quite interesting.

At Idle

A console running at idle shouldn’t be drawing too much power from your socket. However, looking at the numbers below you may reconsider running either console 24/7. If you did, you would be looking at a couple hundred dollars per year, per console.

Xbox 360 - At Idle

152.78 Watts

PS3 - At Idle

181.32 Watts

For arguments sake, an average PC draws 130Watts at Idle.

At Standby

The Average draw during standby is more reasonable and really wouldn’t effect your electricity extortion bill too much.

Xbox 360 - Standby

2.8 Watts

PS3 - Standby

2.3 Watts

While playing games

Playing games brings the power usage levels up but it’s not too bad. While playing Call of Duty 4 the consoles grabbed slightly more (an average of 20W).

Xbox 360 - Playing Call Of Duty 4

173.83 Watts

PS3 - Playing Call Of Duty 4

201.07 Watts

Conclusion

Both consoles are power hungry and there’s not much we can do about that for now. Who knows if somewhere down the line the manufacturer will tweak some settings and improve overall power usage.

In the end it really comes down to if you care about our precious environment. If you do, think about getting a Wii, which probably uses a low amount of power considering it’s wimpy but innovative design.

Too Far a Cry, A Cry Two Far, Cry me a Too Far

January 28, 2008

ET Machete

A little behind the times, but since I get back from Australia, I decided to pop in my brother’s old school computer games which included Stronghold Crusader, and Far Cry.  Now, I’m not a gamer, but I have played a bit of Ghost Recon, and I guess Far Cry and Recon were big around the same time.  So it’s wonderful: you’re shooting up mercenaries on a tropical island, poking between bushes and WW2 war relics with your SMG’s, sniper rifle, and machete.  The first four stages were really getting me into this game… but then I walk into a room where a DnA-warped monkey man is ripping up one the mercenaries that I wanted to blast.  In other words, I basically find myself playing DOOM.  I like playing a good sci fi game, but if I wanted to blast space aliens from hell then I’d stick DOOM in the drive and pull out the double-barrel.  To me, it’s such a cop-out to bust into the alien world when you might have been unravelling a reasonably realistic plot.  Far Cry 2 is coming out and Ubisoft drops you into
Africa where there’s more than enough reason to be on your toes.  I’m just hoping that while I’m blasting twisted guerrillas in the middle of the rainforest, I don’t run into King Kong, or ET, or Worf, or Rudolph.  Pull me into the plot with intellect… lord knows there’s enough twisted things going on out there and enough motivation for a man fighting for survival to kick some ass in Africa.
