Xbox 360 – HDDs too expensive!
May 7, 2008

Why are Xbox 360 Hard Drives so expensive? 1UP has insight into your woes.
Maybe after filling your Xbox 360 hard drive, you’ve looked into buying a bigger model. Whether or not you went through with the painful purchase, there was probably a considerable amount of sticker shock. Stand-alone HDDs are fairly cheap these days, so what’s behind the high price for the Xbox 360 models?
Patrick Klepek recently wrote a report on the MTV Multiplayer Blog that took a look at a cost breakdown for the expensive units with the help of consumer electronics analyst Krishna Chander from iSuppli. Chander explains that the HDDs come preloaded with demos and some parts of the system’s OS, which adds dollars to the equation.

Rock on, Rock Band Rockers
March 6, 2008

We have all played the Guitar Hero series of console games, pretending to be Jimi Hendrix, Slash or Zakk Wylde, but if you feel that your skills as a drunken latenight living room rockstar have progressed a little beyond the norm, I suggest you try out Rock Band. In this arena, you can rock out not only as lead guitarists such as Kirk Hammett of Metallica and Chris Shiflett of Foo Fighters, but as the bassists, drummers and vocalists of these bands. Yes you heard me, even those crazy bassists.
The gameplay is very similar to Guitar Hero, only involving a variety of peripherals, including a microphone and complete drum pad kit. Because of this, it is quick and easy to pick up. The guitar even has 5 frets at the top of the neck for soloing! But don’t be worried, the expert difficulty will give even the most cracked out insane heroin-junkie musicians a run for their money. It is an absolute blast, and hilariously addicting to say the least. Before you know it, it will be 5:30am and you will be convincing your band mates to play ONE MORE song to get that tour bus for your world tour. After all, you can’t WALK a world tour.
Rock Band is available for Xbox 360 and PS3, and a version for Wii is scheduled for arrival in the near future. It’s a perfect addition to any otherwise lame party or late night jam session.
Rock & roll included, sex and drugs sold separately.

HD-DVD receiving the final blow, tomorrow
February 18, 2008

Tuesday February 19th, 2008 is a dark day for HD-DVD early adopters. Toshiba is slated to make a public announcement disclosing the discontinuation of HD-DVD. Hardware sales will cease and the media will meet it’s doom in March. Toshiba will be pulling it’s hardware from store shelves; including personal computer drives. Toshiba will be losing hundreds of millions in the decision but in the end it’s us early adopters that are getting the axe.
Can you get a refund? Not bloody likely. As an early adopter you should already know that it’s usually a lose lose situation once the head-honchos have made a choice such as this.
What will you be doing with your useless and truly disappointing piece of High-Def hardware and media?
