Big Brother & The further loss of civil liberties
August 1, 2008

Thinking about taking your laptop across the border for your next trip up north or down south? News hitting the wires today indicates that you might want to re-think that plan, unless you feel like being separated from your precious gadgets. Apparently, border agents have given themselves the right to seize any piece of electronics equipment they feel like, even if they don’t think you’ve done anything wrong, and they can keep your toys for as long as they like.
This rule extends to your cell phone, Kindle, MP3 player, or any other information storing device you’ve taken along for the trip (even paper!). Agents can also make copies of any (or all) of your data to share with any other Federal agency — though they promise to delete it when they’re through. It was just over a month ago that everyone was up in arms about laptop searching at borders, and now this? We certainly hope that this particular infringement of our digital liberties won’t last long for long.

Facebook rumours – Time to delete the ol’ profile?

Here is a video that facebook users should watch:

However, remember that the source may not be credible so take it with a grain of salt. Regardless, it’s an interesting concept and we’re sure it’s not too far off. We know that the ToS does state the facts that are in the video. But really what do regular everyday users have to be afraid of. We all know big brother is watching at all times, so this just makes it a fun experience for us. The alternative — probably not so enjoyable.

Axis of Idiots

Well, Bush may have claimed the axis of evil is Iran, Iraq, and Korea. But now the world has placed us in family as the US, Iran, and Israel (however, Israel is a special case here, as they are simply a hated nation) are viewed in the most negative light in the world.
I am so glad that Bush has caused us to be so hated, and that my children will have to pay for his mistakes. Its terrible that Americans need to feel fear when the travel to certain parts of the world, or simply avoid stating they are Americans.
I still can’t help but think of the opportunity lost after September 11. We had a chance to set the world in a new direction and this is the one we choose. In some ways I understand the disdain for America; even though it scares me because I live in cross hairs of hate, good ol’ New York.
Good news is that our neighbors to north are the most admired – at least it is a quick jump over the border, and I can stop at duty free and get some cheap booz.

The fantastic Bush Admin have decided to fight illegal drugs by using the uber-popular video service YouTube. I am pretty sure YT has videos of “under the influence” people all over the place. Actually, I guarantee it does.
Not going to lie, but this isn’t a horrible idea by any means. Using the most popular video service in the world to deliver a fantastic message! Wicked! Do you believe that the Bush Administration came up with this? We didn’t…We’re Canadian so what do we know anyway…right. Political issues in Canada are usually settled with hockey sticks and snowballs.
Great idea but it won’t work. People are going to do drugs regardless of whether the government says it’s right or not. THEY’RE drugs! They’re bad and people like to walk on the fine line of what’s right or wrong.
Don’t agree, wanna comment on our horrible grammar and Bush bashing? Register at Intowit cause with this added popularity that we’re getting we would love to get some opinions of real live people.
